Project reference water treatment – water works in Feldhausen & Horsten

GEW Wilhelmshaven GmbH

The GEW Wilhelmshaven provides gas, electricity and water to the city of Wilhelmshaven and surrounding areas. The two water works of the GEW in Feldhausen and Horsten provide drinking water to about 88,000 households and some industrial customers via altogether c. 600 km of supply lines. Both plants combined can process over 2000 m3 of drinking water and transport it to the two supply towers in Wilhelmshaven.

HIT Hafen- und Industrietechnik GmbH has modernized and visualized both of the GEW water works. As part of the modernization project the old AEG-controls were replaced by the Siemens S7 while the system was in operation. The whole SPC encompasses about 4,500 access and exit points which was “fully automated” in the course of modernization, so that the switch room of the water works is no longer manned. The most important error messages and signals are transferred to the main control room of the GEW in Wilhemshaven which also supervises and controls the electricity and gas sectors. In case of alert, the stand-by personnel is able to access a detailed visualization of the switch from home.
