Pfleiderer AG Infrastrukturtechnik
Railway sleeper works in Spain
In their more than 100 years of company history, the Pfleiderer AG has developed into an international concern with 36 works in 26 locations in 6 countries, with about 6,300 employees. The Pfleiderer AG is concentrating on their core activities of derived timber products and infrastructure technology to further expand their leading position in Europe. The infrastructure technology division is split into the division traffic, masts, telecommunication and wind. Within the traffic division, in particular the slab track technology is being constantly renewed and enlarged by applied processes. The railway sleeper production in Travipos, Spain is part of this. In cooperation with us, the existing normal-track sleeper production line was expanded and a new turnout sleeper production was established.

The process
The production of concrete sleepers starts in the tensioning station with the pressure-controlled tensioning of the pre-stressing in a frame. This is put into a special mould which is then filled with concrete. After the shaking of the concrete a “lid” is put on the frame, and the frame turned by 180 degrees and laid down. After that, the mould is pivoted back, so that the railway sleepers are removed from the form. The concrete sleepers, which are still in the frame, are automatically stored in the hardening section by the stacking crane. After the continuing hardening process the concrete sleepers are removed from storage, again fully automatically, and finally finished.
